Choreography development-Stimuli ideas
In today’s
lesson we looked at the different given stimuli and develop ideas for our own
choreography. We were given eight different stimuli to look into in further
detail to help develop our own ideas and give us a starting base to interpret
on our own choreography.
One of the
stimulus photos that captured my eyes is the one of a young girl holding a gun.
This photo had many ways in which you could interpret. Firstly, it shows how
conflict effects even the youngest of people and also emphasis how big an impact
conflict has on today's society. I think it’s a very unusual photo due it being
a young girl and its not typical as it shows a switch of gender roles. A way in
which you could show your ideas through the choreography is to highlight your
emotions of conflict and to show the fear of how society is turning out. Another way which you could look at it would
be the idea that childhood games have changed to become reality.
A second
stimulus I thought was interesting was the photo of DNA and this one photo has
loads of different elements you could interpret into movement and different
motifs. Firstly, one way I thought about is the building blocks are how we made
and how you get 50% of characteristics of your mum and 50% of your dad. Linking
to this DNA is the building blocks to our personalities and traits which we
grow up to have. I feel as though a way you could interpret the 50% way is
having two different motifs which are completely opposite to each other to show
how the different characteristics are and then how they are blended together.
Also, the picture has many intriqet shapes which you could adapt in your
movement and the different patterns link to different characteristics. You can
also interpret this stimulus in many different variations which allows more
aspects to your choreography.
A third
stimulus which really caught my eye was the canvas painting of a boy with the
top part of his head is a blank space. One of the reasons I was drawn to this
picture was you could link it to being whitewashed and having no mind linking to
being cleaned of memories and having nothing to recall on. It can also link
more towards a serious topic in todays society of Mental Health and the emptiness
it makes you feel and the feeling of loneliness. Another way in which you can interpret
this is the fact a vision he has seen may f been so damaging that he can no
longer see it or have any memory towards it- which can also link to people who
are blind and the difficulty they face. The interpretation of this stimulus can
be varied which is why it appeals to me so much.

Your blog is very well set out, and I liked how you stated what you had to do in the task. With the "girl holding a gun" stimulus, I liked your idea of the switch of gender roles, as its something I didn't think about. What decision led you to think about this idea?
ReplyDeleteThroughout your blog you have a range of interesting ideas that you have explored and developed very well.Have you thought about what movements you would you do for the DNA stimulus?
Thank you for your comment.
DeleteThe "girl holding a gun" stimulus idea was lead by the fact stereo-typically it's usually a male holding a gun and in this picture it's a young girl.
My aim for movement for the DNA stimulus was to incorporate the detailing on the image.
The way you have set out your blog is very clear and easy for the audience to understand . maybe you could intensify this clearness by adding photos so the audience can see the stimuli you are talking about. Why do you think the photo of the young girl with a gun is so shocking for the audience?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment.I will look over your feedback.
DeleteI believe the photo of the young girl is so shocking as it's not something you see everyday.
I really enjoyed reading this blog as you have included some great points relating to your thoughts and feelings upon each stimulus.
ReplyDeleteI also like how you have listed a range of different ideas and how you have not just focused on one idea.
maybe you could add some photos of each stimuli so the audience can get a better impression of what each one is.
overall I really liked this blog and I enjoyed reading your thoughts upon each stimulus.
Thank you for your feedback.
DeleteI think I am going to include photos of the stimuli.
I like how you took into consideration each stimulus and looked into them thoroughly. Was there one that you didn't like so much? Like the comments above, adding the pictures of the stimuli would make the audience fully understand and see your views
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThere was a few stimuli that i wasn't interested in.
Did the use of group discussion have an impact on your thoughts? What other ideas and interpretations were discussed during the lesson? Reflecting back, which stimuli were you most drawn to at this moment and why? What drew you away from the other options?
ReplyDeleteHaving a group discussion allowed me to understand how other people had different perspectives on the same photo. It was really useful to do this as it allowed me to have more varied ideas.
ReplyDeleteWe looked into the stimuli in great detail, and explored the different ways you can look into a photo.
Reflecting back the stimulus I was most drawn to was the one with the boys head and wiped eyes. This was because I was already brainstorming different ideas to with this stimulus. It drew me away from the other options as I found I had more interest and understanding in this stimulus.
I really enjoyed reading you blog, I wondered whether you have started thinking about what choreographic devices you can add to each stimulus?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment.
DeleteDuring that lesson I had a think about which choreographic devices would best fit each stimulus.
For example for the dna stimulus I would use the device complementary.
